Jan Knight Flying Edits After three years as full-time editor with Agriculture Western Australia, Jan decided in June 1997 to offer freelance editing (substantive and copy) and proofreading services under the business name Flying Edits. Her clients include government agencies (for example, Agriculture Western Australia, Health Department, Department of Conservation and Land Management, Environmental Protection Authority, Department of Environment, Water Corporation) and community-based organisations (Golden Quest Trails Association, Parkinson's WA, Claremont Yacht Club). Self-publishing is a growing niche; Jan has edited nine self-published books since 2000 plus the occasional website and PhD and Masters thesis. Jan particularly enjoys turning technical information into clear and interesting material for the general reader. Some favourite areas are agriculture, natural resource management, social services, environmental studies, art and design, tourism, biography, history, psychology and child development. Jan edits a wide range of publications – technical reports, extension information, policy statements, newsletters, websites, user manuals, annual reports, media releases, journal articles, community awareness leaflets, submissions, posters and displays.
